Urbain.es, une exposition sur la femme et ses représentations dans la Cité vues par le prisme de l’art urbain, c’est le projet ambitieux porté par la Condition Publique de Roubaix sous le commissariat de Magda Danysz. Après le succès de Street Generation(s) – 40 ans d’art urbain en 2017, évènement qui avait fait date en rassemblant 43 000 visiteurs, la Condition Publique et la galerie Danysz renouent avec leur collaboration pour proposer un parcours exceptionnel : 29 artistes, près d’une centaine d’œuvres, dont une partie créées spécialement pour l’occasion, se déployant sur un espace total de 1 500 m2. Un rendez-vous donné aux Roubaisiens et Roubaisiennes, ainsi qu'aux visiteurs de tous horizons, pour découvrir l’étendue et la richesse d’une autre histoire de l’art, dans laquelle la place des femmes dans la société et les engagements des artistes n’ont eu de cesse d’entrer en résonance ces cinquante dernières années.

Illustration has often been considered the stepchild of literature, strictly an accompaniment which at best serves as a diversionary respite from the intellectual and emotional triumph of words. But along with the more immediately apparent 20th Century revolutions in the plastic arts, film, performance, music and literature, a quiet but equally profound alteration has taken place in the world of illustrated books and publications. Ubu Gallery’s current exhibition, “Artists and Their Books”, is an attempt to gain the recognition of a wider, informed audience for this essential melding of art and literature. We are presenting drawings, collages and photographs created explicitly for or in connection with books and publications produced from the 1920s to 1960s, with a heavy dose of Surrealism. Some of these books and publications are unique, some limited edition, some mass produced. But virtually all of the art generated fcr these books and publications was created by “fine” artists and is exceedingly rare, significant and collectible. Practically every ma|or artist of the 20th Century has collaborated in the creation of one or more of such works and often these artists supplied their own unique voice as well, rivaling the achievements of recognized literary giants. In many cases, illustration has occupied such an important place in the total oeuvre of the artist that no student of art history, connoisseur or astute collector can afford to turn a blind eye.

Hans Bellmer, Man Ray, Claude Cahun, Georges Hugnet, Jindrich Štyrský and Unica Zürn are among the heavyweights on view.

GUDMUNDUR ERRO

Pionnier du mouvement de la Figuration Narrative Erro est à la fois pop et baroque, il désire jouer avec les images, les détourner de leur quotidienneté banale pour les insérer dans un contexte méticuleusement préparé.
Tout commence à la fin des années 50 avec des ciseaux et de la colle...Publicités, journaux, affiches, propagandes politiques, bandes dessinées, il récupère tout ce qu'il voit, tout ce qu'il lit. Il découpe, il assemble et compose un collage comme une esquisse du tableau à venir.
Ce qui l'intéresse avant tout c'est notre culture visuelle et politique. De Mao Zedong à la guerre du Golfe il raconte ce que tout le monde connaît et peut reconnaître...les figures de despote, le monde et ses conflits, la guerre des images.

En 1963 il arrive à New York et initie la série des Scapes, un flux ininterrompu d'images qui saturent la surface du tableau. Ainsi une narration infiniment complexe se met en place et laisse au spectateur sa liberté d'interprétation. « La peinture est un moyen de tenter de découvrir la signification d'un monde confus » nous dit Erro.

A bientôt 90 ans, Erro investit la Galerie Strouk en reprenant ses sujets de prédilections : les supers héros de la pop culture américaine, les mangas japonais et toujours ses hommages à Fernand Léger et Pablo Picasso.
Riche d'une quarantaine d'œuvres et de collages, l'exposition se déroulera simultanément dans nos deux espaces du 2 avenue Matignon et du 5 rue du Mail du 11 mars au 23 avril 2022.

La galerie Dutko a le plaisir de présenter du 12 février au 2 avril 2022 une exposition personnelle de l’artiste française Béatrice Casadesus. Pour sa cinquième exposition dans la galerie,nous présenterons une vingtaine d’oeuvres récentes, réunies pour la première fois. Un texte d’Anne de Staël accompagnera le catalogue de cette exposition.

Dans un entretien récent pour les archives de l’école des Beaux Arts de Paris, Béatrice Casadesus revient sur son parcours dans cette institution où elle a été élève puis professeur. Admise au début des années 1960 au concours d’entrée en peinture, c’est en sculpture qu’elle poursuit ses études. Ce qui l’amènera à côtoyer des architectes et, par la suite, à réaliser de nombreuses commandes publiques dont ‘’Le grand livre des pas’’ qui se déploie sur les quatre niveaux de l’escalier principal de l ‘École de danse de l’Opéra construite par Christian de Portzamparc.

'Keith Haring, Art in action', an immersive solo exhibition at Opera Gallery Miami running until December 19. Undeniably one of the most influential artists of his time, the exhibition draws inspiration from the various iconic spaces Haring inhabited. Beyond just drawings, Keith Haring's art opened dialogue on love, sexuality, war, politics, AIDS and drug awareness. Conversations that continued throughout his prolific art career.

Opera Gallery is delighted to present ‘Keith Haring: Art in Action’, an immersive solo exhibition that celebrates Haring and his legacy, by remembering the spaces and places made special by Haring and his iconic drawings. Undeniably one of the most influential artists of his time, Haring shook up the art world one street drawing at a time and the buzz never really went away.

This is remembrance, an ode to an 80s New York full of possibilities, dreams and unstoppable creativity. Right in the center of this booming street culture was a group of artists who believed in art as a response to life itself, as a means of representing its grandness and intricacies in the frenetic rhythm of the time. Keith Haring was an integral part of this movement by occupying and engaging with underground scenes, creating art for causes that were close to humanity.

The streets and subway stations were Haring’s canvases, as he started devoting himself to lining the walls with his unmissable imageries and universal line-work, alive with playful kinetic energy. The idea was simple - to bring art closer to people, to create a pictorial vocabulary that can be comprehended by all, regardless of age, language and background. Beyond just drawings, Haring’s art symbolised his stance on post-modern currents of the time and opened dialogues on love, sexuality, war, politics, AIDS and drug-awareness - conversations that continued through his prolific art career. The result was like a light in darker times, inspiring a whole generation of people to believe in art, life, and how both intertwined.
